My Top 3 Self Care Ideas For Valentine's Day 2019

Whether you’re single or taken this Valentine’s Day, taking the time out for yourself is really important. If you have plans to spend the nights with friends, family or a loved one, treating yourself is going to be the cherry on top. After all, you deserve to treat yo self!

I’m a big believer in love. Even though I’ve gone through a few breakups, I still believe it’s out there. But love can come in many different ways not just romantically. This year I have made a commitment to really strengthen the relationship I have with myself. Self-love is a concept I still don’t fully understand, only because it is a bit of an unusual territory for me. But it’s something I’m working on!

To my gals who are in relationships, taking time out for yourself is really important too. Why? Because if you don’t spend time on yourself first then you can’t be the best girlfriend or partner to your special someone! I’ve been the guilty one in most of my relationships where I have totally burnt myself out so much because I never took care of myself, so make a choice this year and choose you first!

Speaking of, I’m going to share with you my top 3 self-care ideas that you can do on Valentine’s Day (or any day!):

#1 - Read your favourite book

selfcarebooks

It’s Summer here in Australia. So instead of finding me curled up under a blanket, I’ll be out on the beach lying down reading my favourite book!

I’m a bit of a serial book reader so at the moment I’m trying to read three books all at once. Which to be honest, has proven to be less productive, to say the least, haha!

Get lost in a romantic novel or a naughty erotic tale and get in the mood for romance (or lust!).

#2 - Draw a warm relaxing bath

If you’re not a fan of baths, I suggest you just leave and never come back. How can you not?! Taking a bath is soothing, relaxing and it can really help you melt the stress from your busy life away! With the smell of your favourite bath oil or soaking salts, it truly is an anti-depressant in the form of healthy hygiene practice.

It’s a great way to treat yourself after a long day at work and if you’re prepping for a hot date, this is the perfect time to have your “me” time before heading off to get smooched! (When I wrote this sentence I realised this may have a bit of a hidden meaning...I’m just going to let you decide what interpretation you wanna take that!)

#3 - Write about what you love about yourself!

self love journal

This one is a little different! You can definitely still send your Valentine a sweet message to tell him/her how much you adore them. I feel the art of letter writing is so dead so pleaseeee do me a favour and hand write them a beautiful card (not being biased because I am a writer!). Once you do that, let’s write something for ourselves!

For Valentine’s Day this year it’s a great time to reflect on the things you love about yourself. Grab your notebook out and write down the answers to these journal prompts to get you started! It’s really about boosting self-love and also highlighting the best things about you!

  • What is your proudest moment or achievement?

  • What are you great at doing?

  • Write 3 things that you love about yourself? If you can’t think of any, ask a friend or family member! - I got this from Lavendaire!

  • What can I do today to take care of myself?

My thoughts on V-Day

I’ve always told my previous partners that Valentine’s Day is pretty overrated. I personally feel that with any relationship you have, whether be romantic or platonic, every day should be Valentine’s Day. You should tell the people you care about, that you love them every single day.

It’s really not that hard! Sometimes when you’re faced with adversity it can really be hard to express that type of emotion but as Oprah says ‘Love is not meant to hurt’, it's supposed to be an amazing feeling! So if you haven’t yet said it today, I encourage you to run to that person and tell them how much you mean to them. I guarantee you will feel good about it :)

I hope you found these self-care ideas really helpful and more importantly, I hope you have THE BEST Valentine’s Day this year! Because you deserve to be loved and supported my friends!
